Video is hot right now. If you’re new to the world of video or video blogging, there is an event to help you out. It’s called VEDA and it stands for Video (vlog) Every Day in August (or April). I know you’re thinking video is expensive and it takes time to create a good video, but the point of VEDA is not to create 31 professional or perfect videos. The point is to get you comfortable behind a camera. VEDA participants usually upload a video 1-5 minutes long talking about a topic of the day. There is usually no editing or special effects. It’s not meant to be fancy. It is simply a challenge designed to help you become comfortable talking to a camera and potential audience.
But who is going to watch 31 videos of me? That’s where the community feature comes in. There are several communities of people that do VEDA. Seriously, just look up the term and it should come up. When Larry informed us of VEDA in April, he was a part of the #SSSVEDA network. The 5 Stones team has decided to participate in this challenge, and we encourage you to participate as well. Use the hashtag #5SMVEDA and create a community of video bloggers. Sharing, commenting, and interacting with one another is the essence of creating a great VEDA experience. Learning from one another and giving advice is what VEDA is all about.
How does VEDA benefit me? Many businesses want to enter the realm of video but don’t know how to behave in front of a camera, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But, if you want to get better at being in front of a camera or learn to respond to questions on the fly or practice video blogging, then this challenge is for you. This also allows you to be a real person in front of your audience. It’s easy to put on a professional face all the time when you run a business, but people enjoy interacting with a real person more than a business. Video allows you to be seen as a real person. VEDA allows you to be a real person.
Are you up for the challenge? Post your videos anywhere or on any platform (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Periscope, Meerkat, etc.) just make sure you use #5SMVEDA or #VEDA.
