One of the biggest issues I hear from professionals who take my classes is that they don’t know what to put on social media, what to write or how to say what they want to say. Putting together that Facebook post or Tweet becomes a point of stress, pain, and anxiety and stops them in their tracks. No worries! I’m here to help!
It’s no secret or surprise that I am a big advocate of Constant Contact as a solution for email marketing. I am a Master Certified Solution Provider with Constant Contact and gain great value from their content, ideas and suggestions. As one of their Authorized Local Experts, I teach tips and strategies to help business professionals gain knowledge and confidence so that they can go out and accomplish their online marketing goals. With that said, Constant Contact suggests a guideline that recommends your social media content fall in line with the 50/30/20 way of posting.
Our Social Media Manager Hillory discusses the 50/30/20 rule in her recent blog, “We Live By This Rule!” Check it out here!
Imagine that moment when you realize you haven’t posted on your social media profile in a week (or longer). The panic sets in and you rush to your computer or phone to throw together a post about your business. It is typically a “promotional” post that now, with Pay-To-Play, is likely not going to reach many people.
Get started:
Once you are familiar with the 50/30/20 rule of posting, try the following:
- I recommend putting this into a content calendar. If you know you want to post 10 times per week, then 5 of them would be entertaining, 3 would be industry/tips, etc and 2 would be promotional. Write them down (type them into an excel spreadsheet, if you prefer).
- Determine when you will post them. (Look at your Facebook insights, in the posts submenu, to find the best time of day to post. If Facebook says 8pm then I suggest posting at 7:30pm but don’t forget to post at other times as well to reach a different audience, whom you might find to be more engaging.)
- Sit down and schedule all of your posts.
You do not have to be a journalist or creative writing major to put together social media posts. Relax and enjoy your social media presence. Use these tips to help you develop your content and save yourself some time with organizing and scheduling your posts! Good luck! Let me know if you have questions.
