Wish you knew how to write effective and engaging blog posts? I’m going to write you a blog on how to write a blog, in the form of a blog. Still with me? Good.
Writing a how-To blog post is simple. Write out all the steps involved in doing something, in this case, on how to write a blog.
First things first, use bullet points.
Bullet points keep things:
Short
Simple
To the point
And easy to read
Do not put everything in one long paragraph. You probably find this blog much easier to read. It’s the format. Most people scan the entire page prior to reading it; most likely, you did this the second you visited this page.
It’s a good idea to use bullet points and headers. The headers (in bold above the bullet points) give your reader an idea of the main points as well as the direction of the overall blog, while the actual points serve to further elaborate. Usually followed by a summative statement (yeah, this paragraph you’re reading right here).
Use the word “you”:
It makes your audience feel like you’re talking directly to them
This sets a much more personal tone
Pretend to write for one person (Though it’s more like thousands)
You want to get on a personal level with your readers and maintain that level of communication. Respond to their comments and engage in the conversation you have initiated.
Don’t try to be fancy:
Use simple words.
Most readers are on a 5th grade level
You’ll still sound like an expert
Easily understood content gets shared more
Since most shares occur on social media, you’ll fit right in, even with a fifth grade vocabulary!
Prove yourself:
Give support to prove any claims you make
Use graphs, images and statistics
This blog contains an image, and that image relates to the overall topic of the blog. The links you’ll find throughout the blog give support to claims made and give credibility to what’s being said and the author.
Just keep in mind the keys to writing an engaging blog post: simplicity, credibility, common level of two-way communication and easy navigation of the blog. Have any questions about blogging? Feel free to email me, I’d love to help, [email protected].
